Can dogs eat raw dough?
If your dog has already eaten this and you are worried, contact your veterinarian.
Why
Dangerous. Yeast dough expands and produces alcohol in the stomach. The yeast in raw dough continues to rise inside a dog's stomach, causing painful bloating and potentially life-threatening gas buildup. As the yeast ferments, it also produces alcohol, which can lead to severe intoxication and organ failure. This reaction happens quickly and can be fatal even with small amounts of dough.
Watch out for
- raw dough of any kind
- dough left out to rise
- dough containing raisins or chocolate
