Can dogs eat carrots?

Why
Carrots are non-toxic and provide beneficial vitamins and fiber, but their hard texture can pose a choking hazard if not prepared properly. They should only be offered as an occasional snack rather than a meal replacement to avoid digestive upset.
If you do feed it
- Cut carrots into small, bite-sized pieces or sticks to prevent choking, especially for small dogs.
- Serve raw carrots lightly steamed or boiled without any added salt, butter, or seasonings.
- Limit treats to no more than 10% of your dog's daily calorie intake.
- Introduce carrots slowly to monitor for any signs of stomach sensitivity.
Watch out for
- Sweetened carrot products like baby food with added sugar or spices
- Whole, uncut carrots which can be a choking risk
- Carrot tops which may cause mild stomach upset in large quantities
