Can chickens eat spinach?

Why
Spinach contains oxalates which can interfere with calcium absorption if fed in large quantities, potentially leading to kidney problems or egg-laying issues. It is best treated as an occasional treat rather than a staple of their diet.
If you do feed it
- Limit spinach to no more than 10% of their total daily food intake
- Chop the leaves into small pieces to prevent choking
- Feed fresh spinach only, avoiding wilted or spoiled leaves
- Ensure they have access to plenty of clean water to help digestion
Watch out for
- Frozen spinach that has been thawed and left out too long
- Spinach mixed with salty seasonings or oils
- Spinach stems that are tough and fibrous
- Spinach from areas treated with pesticides
