Red peppers are non-toxic and provide vitamins and hydration, making them a good occasional snack. However, they should be offered in small quantities to ensure the birds continue to eat their balanced layer feed.

If you do feed it

• Remove stems and seeds before feeding to prevent choking or digestive upset.
• Offer only fresh, raw peppers without any added salt, spices, or seasonings.
• Limit treats to no more than 10% of the chicken's daily food intake.
• Chop larger peppers into smaller pieces to make them easier for chickens to eat.

Watch out for

• Seeds and stems which can be a choking hazard
• Spicy varieties that might cause discomfort
• Sweetened or processed pepper products
• Moldy or spoiled peppers
