Can chickens eat potatoes?

Why

Raw potatoes and green skins contain solanine, a toxin that can make chickens very sick. Cooking them thoroughly destroys the toxin, making them a safe treat when given sparingly.

If you do feed it

Only feed fully cooked potatoes with no salt, butter, or seasonings.
Remove all green skins and sprouts before serving.
Limit treats to less than 10% of their daily diet.
Mash or chop potatoes to prevent choking.
