Can chickens eat pear?

Why

Pear flesh is non-toxic and provides hydration and vitamins, but the seeds contain trace amounts of cyanide which can be harmful if consumed in large quantities. Additionally, the high sugar content means pears should only be an occasional treat rather than a staple of their diet.

If you do feed it

• Remove all seeds and the core before feeding, as they contain cyanogenic compounds.
• Offer only small, bite-sized pieces of fresh, unsweetened pear flesh.
• Limit treats to no more than 10% of the chicken's total daily food intake.
• Ensure the pear is fresh and not moldy or rotting.
