Can chickens eat pear?

Why

Pears are non-toxic and provide hydration and vitamins, but their high sugar content means they should not replace a balanced diet. The core and seeds must be removed to prevent choking and avoid trace amounts of cyanide found in the seeds.

If you do feed it

• Remove all seeds and the hard core before feeding.
• Offer only small, chopped pieces as a treat, not a meal replacement.
• Limit treats to less than 10% of their total daily food intake.
• Ensure the pear is fresh and free from mold or rot.

Watch out for

• seeds and core (contain trace cyanide)
• sweetened or canned pears (high sugar and additives)
• moldy fruit (can cause respiratory issues)
• large chunks (choking hazard)
