Can chickens eat peanuts?

Why

Peanuts are high in fat and can cause obesity or digestive issues if fed in excess, and raw peanuts may contain harmful molds or anti-nutrients. They must always be shelled and served without any salt, sugar, or flavorings to prevent health problems.

If you do feed it

Serve only raw or roasted peanuts that are completely unsalted and unsweetened.
Limit treats to no more than 1-2 peanuts per bird, a few times a week.
Always remove the shells to prevent choking hazards.
Crush or chop larger peanuts to make them easier for chickens to eat.

Salted, roasted, or flavored peanuts
Sweetened or chocolate-covered peanuts
Moldy or rancid nuts
Whole shells which pose a choking risk
