Can chickens eat peaches?

Why

The fleshy part of the peach is a healthy treat rich in vitamins, but the pit contains cyanide which is toxic to chickens if crushed and eaten. Additionally, the high sugar content means peaches should only be given occasionally to prevent digestive upset.

If you do feed it

• Remove the pit and seed completely before feeding to avoid cyanide poisoning.
• Offer only small amounts of fresh, unsweetened flesh as an occasional treat.
• Wash the skin thoroughly to remove pesticides, or peel it if unsure.
• Limit treats to no more than 10% of their total daily diet.

• Pits and seeds (contain cyanide)
• Sweetened or canned peaches (high sugar)
• Moldy fruit
• Excessive consumption leading to diarrhea
