Can chickens eat mango?

Why

The flesh of the mango is nutritious and safe for chickens to eat, but the large seed contains trace amounts of cyanide and poses a choking hazard. Additionally, the high sugar content means it should only be given occasionally to prevent digestive upset.

If you do feed it

• Remove the large, hard pit completely before feeding to prevent choking and toxin exposure.
• Peel the skin as it can be tough to digest and may contain pesticide residues.
• Cut the fruit into small, bite-sized pieces to make it easy for chickens to eat.
• Limit treats to no more than 10% of their daily diet to avoid excess sugar intake.
