Can chickens eat green beans?

Why
Unlike dried beans which contain harmful lectins, fresh green beans do not carry this risk and can be fed raw. They provide a crunchy, hydrating snack that chickens enjoy, but they should not replace their balanced layer feed.
If you do feed it
- Offer fresh green beans raw or lightly steamed without salt or seasonings
- Limit treats to no more than 10% of the chicken's total daily diet
- Chop or break them into smaller pieces to prevent choking
- Ensure the beans are fresh and free from mold or rot
Watch out for
- dried beans (kidney, cannellini, etc.) which are toxic
- canned green beans with added salt or preservatives
- frozen green beans that have been thawed and left out too long
- seasoned or buttered green beans
