Can chickens eat cooked rice?

Why

Rice provides energy but lacks the essential nutrients chickens need for optimal health and egg production. Feeding too much can lead to an unbalanced diet where chickens fill up on empty calories instead of their complete feed.

If you do feed it

• Serve only plain, unseasoned rice without salt, butter, or sauces
• Limit treats to no more than 10% of their total daily food intake
• Ensure the rice is fully cooked and cooled to room temperature before serving
• Mix it with their regular feed or greens to encourage a balanced diet

Watch out for

• Sweetened rice dishes like rice pudding
• Rice mixed with onions, garlic, or excessive spices
• Raw or undercooked rice which is harder to digest
• Leftover rice that has been sitting out and may have mold
