Can chickens eat bread?

Why

Bread is mostly empty calories and can fill chickens up without providing the protein and vitamins they need for egg production and growth. Excessive consumption can lead to obesity, crop impaction, or nutritional deficiencies, especially if it replaces their balanced feed.

If you do feed it

Limit treats to no more than 10% of their daily diet
Only offer small, dry pieces of plain white or wheat bread
Avoid feeding bread that is moldy, stale, or soaked in milk
Ensure chickens have access to fresh water and their regular balanced feed
