Can cats eat turkey?

Why

Turkey is a lean protein that cats naturally enjoy, but it must be prepared without any bones, skin, or seasonings. Even though it is nutritious, it should only be an occasional treat and not a replacement for a complete and balanced cat food diet.

If you do feed it

• Serve only plain, fully cooked turkey with no bones, skin, or seasoning.
• Limit treats to no more than 10% of your cat's daily calorie intake.
• Cut the meat into small, bite-sized pieces to prevent choking.
• Avoid any turkey products containing onions, garlic, or excessive salt.

Watch out for

• bones (choking hazard and internal damage)
• skin (high fat causing pancreatitis)
• seasonings like garlic, onion, or excessive salt
• processed deli meats with preservatives
• raw turkey (risk of bacteria)
