Can cats eat raw chicken?

Why

Raw poultry carries a high risk of harmful bacteria like Salmonella and Campylobacter, which can make your cat very sick. There is also a danger of bones splintering and causing internal injuries or blockages if not prepared correctly.

If you do feed it

• Use only fresh, high-quality chicken intended for human consumption and freeze it beforehand to reduce parasites.
• Remove all bones completely and cut the meat into small, bite-sized pieces to prevent choking.
• Limit raw chicken to no more than 10% of your cat's total daily diet to maintain nutritional balance.
• Wash all surfaces and hands thoroughly after handling raw meat to prevent cross-contamination.

Watch out for

• bones (especially cooked bones which splinter easily)
• chicken skin (high fat content can cause pancreatitis)
• seasoned or marinated chicken (garlic and onion are toxic)
• expired or spoiled meat
