Can cats eat pork?
If your cat has already eaten this and you are worried, contact your veterinarian.
Why
Pork is not toxic to cats, but it is high in fat which can lead to pancreatitis, a serious condition. Additionally, raw or undercooked pork carries a risk of parasites and bacteria that can make your cat very sick.
If you do feed it
- Serve only fully cooked, lean pork with all fat and gristle trimmed off.
- Offer only a tiny piece (about the size of a pea) as an occasional treat, not a meal.
- Never feed pork that is seasoned with garlic, onions, salt, or spices.
- Ensure the pork is cooled to room temperature before serving to avoid burns.
Watch out for
- raw or undercooked pork
- fatty cuts and skin
- seasoned or cured pork (bacon, ham, sausages)
- pork bones
