Can cats eat pork?

Why

Pork is not toxic to cats, but it is high in fat which can lead to pancreatitis, a serious condition. Additionally, raw or undercooked pork carries a risk of parasites and bacteria that can make your cat very sick.

If you do feed it

• Serve only fully cooked, lean pork with all fat and gristle trimmed off.
• Offer only a tiny piece (about the size of a pea) as an occasional treat, not a meal.
• Never feed pork that is seasoned with garlic, onions, salt, or spices.
• Ensure the pork is cooled to room temperature before serving to avoid burns.

Watch out for

• raw or undercooked pork
• fatty cuts and skin
• seasoned or cured pork (bacon, ham, sausages)
• pork bones
