Can cats eat mango?
If your cat has already eaten this and you are worried, contact your veterinarian.
Why
Mango is non-toxic to cats, but its high sugar content can cause digestive issues like diarrhea if they eat too much. The skin and large seed are dangerous choking hazards and should always be removed before offering any fruit.
If you do feed it
- Peel the mango completely and remove the large, hard seed before cutting the flesh into tiny, bite-sized pieces.
- Offer only a small amount (about a teaspoon) as an occasional treat, not a regular part of their diet.
- Introduce the fruit slowly to see if your cat tolerates it without vomiting or loose stools.
- Always serve fresh mango only; avoid canned versions which contain added sugars or syrups.
Watch out for
- mango seeds and pits (choking hazard)
- mango skin (hard to digest)
- canned or sweetened mango products
- dried mango with added sugar
