Can cats eat mango?

Why

Mango is non-toxic to cats, but it is very high in natural sugars which can upset their stomach or contribute to weight gain. The fruit also contains a large, hard pit and a rough skin that pose choking hazards or intestinal blockages.

If you do feed it

• Remove the skin and the large pit completely before offering any fruit.
• Offer only tiny, bite-sized pieces of fresh flesh as an occasional treat, not a meal.
• Limit the amount to a teaspoon or less per serving to avoid digestive upset.
• Always introduce a new food slowly to monitor for any adverse reactions.

Watch out for

• The large, hard seed/pit which is a choking hazard
• The tough, fibrous skin which is difficult to digest
• Canned or sweetened mango products with added sugars or syrups
