Can cats eat lilies?

Why

Toxic to cats. Every part of a true lily, including pollen and vase water, can cause kidney failure. True lilies (Lilium) and daylilies (Hemerocallis) are both implicated in feline kidney injury. A cat does not need to eat the plant: brushing against pollen and later grooming it off the coat has been enough.

Watch out for

• Cut-flower bouquets, which very often contain lilies
• Pollen on fur, paws or whiskers after a cat brushes past the flowers
• The vase water itself
• Fallen petals, leaves and stamens on floors and worktops
