Can cats eat eggs?

Why

Raw eggs carry a risk of salmonella and can interfere with vitamin absorption, so they must always be cooked thoroughly. Even cooked eggs are high in calories and protein, so they should not replace a balanced cat food diet.

• Serve only fully cooked eggs with no added salt, butter, or seasonings.
• Limit treats to one small scrambled or hard-boiled egg per week or less.
• Cut into small pieces to prevent choking and monitor for digestive upset.
• Ensure the egg is cooled to room temperature before offering it to your cat.

• raw or undercooked eggs
• seasoned or fried eggs with onions/garlic
• eggshells
• egg products containing sweeteners or xylitol
