Can cats eat cucumbers?
If your cat has already eaten this and you are worried, contact your veterinarian.
Why
Cucumbers are non-toxic but have a high water content and low fiber, which can lead to diarrhea or an upset tummy if a cat eats too much. Some cats may also find the texture or taste unappealing, and the skin can be difficult to digest for sensitive stomachs.
If you do feed it
- Offer only a tiny piece (about the size of a fingernail) as an occasional treat, not a meal.
- Peel the cucumber and remove the seeds to make it easier to digest.
- Introduce slowly and watch for any signs of vomiting or loose stools.
- Do not feed pickled or seasoned cucumbers, as the salt and spices are harmful.
Watch out for
- pickled cucumbers
- cucumbers with salt, garlic, or onion
- large quantities
- seeds and tough skin
