Can cats eat bread?

Why

Cats are obligate carnivores and cannot derive nutrition from bread, which is mostly empty carbohydrates that can lead to weight gain. Additionally, raw dough is extremely dangerous as it can expand in the stomach and produce alcohol, so only fully baked bread is ever considered.

If you do feed it

• Offer only a tiny crumb-sized piece of plain, fully baked bread as an occasional treat.
• Ensure the bread contains no raisins, garlic, onions, chocolate, or other toxic additives.
• Avoid giving bread if your cat is overweight or has diabetes.
• Never feed raw dough or bread that is still warm from the oven.

• Bread with raisins, onions, garlic, or chocolate
• Sweetened or flavored breads with artificial sweeteners like xylitol
• Bread with seeds or nuts that could cause choking
