Can cats eat apples?

Why

Apples are non-toxic to cats in moderation, but they offer no nutritional benefit that a cat cannot get from meat-based foods. The seeds and core contain trace amounts of cyanide and pose a choking hazard, so they must be strictly removed before offering any fruit.

If you do feed it

• Remove all seeds and the core completely before serving.
• Peel the skin to make it easier to digest and reduce pesticide residue.
• Offer only a tiny piece (about the size of a fingernail) as an occasional treat.
• Do not feed sweetened, cooked, or baked apple products.
