Can dogs eat turkey?

Why
Turkey is a lean protein source that dogs can digest well, but it must be prepared simply to avoid stomach upset. The risks come from added ingredients like salt, spices, or fats, as well as the danger of choking on bones.
If you do feed it
- Serve only plain, fully cooked turkey with all bones and skin removed.
- Limit treats to no more than 10% of your dog's daily calorie intake.
- Cut the meat into small, bite-sized pieces to prevent choking.
- Avoid any turkey that is seasoned, glazed, or part of a holiday meal.
Watch out for
- cooked bones which can splinter and cause internal injury
- turkey skin which is high in fat and can trigger pancreatitis
- seasonings like garlic, onion, or excessive salt
- sweetened or glazed turkey products
