Can dogs eat strawberries?
If your dog has already eaten this and you are worried, contact your veterinarian.
Why
Strawberries are non-toxic and packed with vitamins and fiber, but their high sugar content means they should only be an occasional snack. Always wash the fruit thoroughly and remove the stems to prevent choking or digestive upset.
If you do feed it
- Limit treats to no more than 10% of your dog's daily calorie intake
- Cut large strawberries into small, bite-sized pieces to prevent choking
- Only offer fresh or frozen strawberries without added sugar or chocolate
- Introduce slowly to watch for any signs of stomach upset or allergies
Watch out for
- Sweetened or candied strawberries
- Strawberry-flavored candies or desserts containing chocolate or xylitol
- Large whole berries that could cause choking
