Can dogs eat pork?
If your dog has already eaten this and you are worried, contact your veterinarian.
Why
Pork must be fully cooked to kill parasites like trichinella, and it should be lean to avoid pancreatitis from high fat. Seasonings, bones, and processed forms like bacon or ham often contain harmful levels of salt and spices.
If you do feed it
- Serve only plain, fully cooked lean pork with no bones, skin, or seasoning.
- Limit treats to small, bite-sized pieces to prevent stomach upset.
- Avoid all processed pork products like bacon, ham, and sausages due to high salt and preservatives.
Watch out for
- raw or undercooked pork
- pork bones
- bacon and ham
- pork with garlic or onion
- sweetened pork glazes
