Can dogs eat pear?
If your dog has already eaten this and you are worried, contact your veterinarian.
Why
Pears contain natural sugars that can upset a dog's stomach if eaten in large quantities, and the seeds contain trace amounts of cyanide which are toxic. The core is also a choking hazard and difficult to digest.
If you do feed it
- Remove all seeds and the tough core before offering any pieces.
- Cut the fruit into small, bite-sized chunks to prevent choking.
- Limit treats to a few small slices occasionally, not as a meal replacement.
- Introduce slowly to check for any digestive upset or allergies.
Watch out for
- seeds
- core
- canned pears in syrup
- pear jam or preserves
