Why

Pears are non-toxic and provide fiber and vitamins, but their high sugar content means they should only be offered as an occasional snack rather than a meal replacement. The core and seeds must always be removed because the seeds contain trace amounts of cyanide and the core poses a choking hazard.

If you do feed it

• Remove all seeds and the tough core before serving.
• Cut the fruit into small, bite-sized pieces to prevent choking.
• Limit treats to no more than 10% of your dog's daily calorie intake.
• Introduce small amounts slowly to check for digestive upset.
