Can dogs eat peanuts?
If your dog has already eaten this and you are worried, contact your veterinarian.
Why
Peanuts are high in fat and salt, which can cause pancreatitis or upset stomachs if a dog eats too many. They also pose a choking hazard and can trigger allergic reactions in some dogs.
If you do feed it
- Serve only plain, unsalted, and unflavored peanuts with no shells or skins.
- Limit treats to a few peanuts depending on the dog's size, and introduce them slowly.
- Always supervise your dog while they eat to prevent choking.
Watch out for
- Salted, roasted, or flavored peanuts
- Peanut butter containing xylitol
- Whole peanuts with shells
- Moldy peanuts
