Why

The flesh of a peach is non-toxic and provides vitamins, but the hard pit can cause intestinal blockages and contains trace amounts of cyanide. Additionally, the skin can be difficult for some dogs to digest, and sweetened or canned versions often contain harmful additives like xylitol.

If you do feed it

• Remove the pit and stem completely before offering any fruit.
• Peel the skin to make it easier to digest and reduce choking risk.
• Limit treats to a few small slices as an occasional snack, not a meal replacement.
• Avoid all canned peaches or those with added syrups, sugars, or artificial sweeteners.

Watch out for

• The hard pit (seed) which is a choking hazard and contains cyanide
• The skin which can cause digestive upset
• Canned peaches with added sugar or xylitol
• Peach pits found in compost or trash
