Can dogs eat kiwi fruit?
If your dog has already eaten this and you are worried, contact your veterinarian.
Why
The flesh of the kiwi is non-toxic and provides vitamins, but the fuzzy skin can be hard to digest and the seeds may cause minor irritation. Some dogs might experience stomach upset or an allergic reaction, so it is best to introduce this fruit slowly.
If you do feed it
- Peel the kiwi completely to remove the tough, fuzzy skin.
- Cut the fruit into small, bite-sized pieces to prevent choking.
- Limit the portion to a few small slices as an occasional treat, not a meal replacement.
- Remove any stems or leaves before serving.
Watch out for
- fuzzy skin which is difficult to digest
- seeds that may cause minor irritation
- sweetened or canned kiwi products
- signs of vomiting or diarrhea after eating
