Why
Eggs are a great source of high-quality protein, fatty acids, and vitamins that can benefit your dog's coat and immune system. However, they should always be cooked thoroughly to avoid the risk of salmonella or biotin deficiency, and raw eggs should be avoided.
If you do feed it
- Serve only fully cooked eggs (scrambled, boiled, or poached) with no added salt, butter, or oils.
- Limit treats to one small egg or half a large egg per day for an average-sized dog.
- Introduce eggs slowly to check for any signs of an allergic reaction or upset stomach.
- Crush the shell into a powder if you want to add extra calcium, but do not feed large hard pieces.
Watch out for
- Raw eggs (risk of bacteria and biotin issues)
- Seasoned or fried eggs with onions, garlic, or excessive salt
- Sweetened egg dishes like custards or cakes
- Eggshells that are not ground finely (choking hazard)
