Can dogs eat cinnamon?

Why
While the spice itself is not poisonous, large quantities can cause vomiting, diarrhea, and low blood sugar. Additionally, inhaling cinnamon powder can irritate a dog's airways and cause coughing or breathing difficulties.
If you do feed it
- Use only a tiny pinch of ground cinnamon mixed into food, never a full spoonful.
- Avoid cinnamon rolls, cookies, or any treats containing added sugars or xylitol.
- Do not force your dog to eat cinnamon if they dislike the taste or smell.
- Keep loose cinnamon powder away from your dog's face to prevent them from inhaling it.
Watch out for
- Cinnamon rolls and pastries with icing
- Cinnamon essential oils or supplements
- Xylitol (an artificial sweetener) in cinnamon-flavored products
- Cinnamon sticks that could pose a choking hazard
