Can dogs eat bananas?
If your dog has already eaten this and you are worried, contact your veterinarian.
Why
Bananas are non-toxic and provide beneficial nutrients like potassium and vitamins, but their natural sugars can lead to weight gain or digestive upset if overfed. They should only be offered as an occasional snack rather than a regular part of the diet.
If you do feed it
- Peel the banana completely before serving, as the skin is difficult to digest
- Limit treats to no more than 10% of your dog's daily calorie intake
- Cut the banana into small, bite-sized pieces to prevent choking
- Start with a very small amount to ensure your dog tolerates it well
Watch out for
- banana peels which can cause intestinal blockages
- sweetened or processed banana products like chips or cakes
- moldy bananas which can be toxic
